An American Trail
Adventure Twenty: Wyoming and Colorado
Passing the torch together
“I love the Lord my God with all of my heart and my neighbor as myself.”
Patrick Henry was a patriot who lived during the time of George Washington and Ben Franklin. When Patrick Henry was a little boy, his parents took him to church. He liked the minister. He liked to listen to him talk. He enjoyed listening. He said he wanted to be able to speak like the preacher! God gave Patrick the desire that he had in his heart. Guess what Patrick Henry was known for? He became famous for being a brilliant speaker! He used his words to help America become a great nation under God.
The people had become sad because the king of England wanted to be the boss of the United States. They even charged a lot of money for the United States to buy food and supplies. Patrick wanted the United States to be a nation under God, not under the King of England. The patriots knew that they would have to fight for their freedom.
Patrick Henry said, “Give me liberty (that means freedom) or give me death!”
Patriots, what did he mean when he said that? (Ask the patriots to share…)
Patrick Henry chose to fight for his freedom.
Holy Spirit, please help the patriots in the United States to be strong like Patrick Henry was. Help us to stand up for what is right!
Patrick Henry used his words to encourage the patriots to be strong and fight for what was right. You’re helping the U.S. to be strong right now. We want to use our words to speak the truth.
